Traineeships at St James

Ministry Traineeships are 2-3 year apprenticeships. They allow people a chance to take time out to experience pastoral and teaching ministries while undertaking some level of theological training. It is on-the-job training centred on prayer, Bible study and practical ministry experience. At St James we love seeing people grow in their love of Jesus and ability to serve Him and His people. Ministry traineeships provide a great opportunity to be equipped and grow in skills and character as a full time gospel worker.

Doing a ministry traineeship at St James was a deeply challenging yet deeply rewarding experience. The opportunity to be equipped in both practical skills and theological knowledge while studying at Youthworks College, which I was then able to put immediately into practice in various ministries at church, was so helpful for both my personal and spiritual growth and for my effectiveness as a ministry leader.

The relationships that I built with the staff team, church members, and college community were also a wonderful encouragement and support. There’s no better opportunity to consider what it would look like to serve in ministry as a vocation – and regardless of where it leads, the experience is still so valuable and will strengthen you as a disciple for all of life.

It was a huge privilege to do a two-year traineeship at church! I got to experience a wide range of different ministries, and be involved in various teams and projects, while growing my skills as a minister.

A major highlight was that I always felt so supported by my church community, it meant that in my highs and lows, mistakes and successes, I never felt alone while doing ministry.

MTS has prepared me for doing long-term ministry, it has helped me realise my heart for doing overseas mission and I look forward to using all that I’ve learnt to serve our good God!
